What do you call looking wood piece that covers the entrance and the gateway also has two columns holding it?

So the competition is to describe or draw the changes that are possible to make our boring lobby and terrace. The lobby is simple with shelves for backpacks and lunches, there is a big TV showing all the events of the school near the front doors are glass, and there is a small wooden table. What I could design to improve it? The terrace is quite nice with wooden tables, lunch with large umbrella over them and a small garden in the center of the terrace rectangular. What could add or change here to make it better? Nothing too expensive because my school does not believe. Thanks for all the creative ideas!
